The meeting began with Jana Spiker, from CDOT region 1, discussing the King’s Valley project. The project has run into a few new issues as they have discovered that one of the properties that they need right a ways through has a conservation easement & a historic building on it. CDOT is evaluating their options & may have to reopen the design to look at other alternatives.
Project costs are currently $10M with an addition $2M - $4M for the purchase of right a ways. Jana believes they may have found more dollars to fund the project but CDOT still doesn’t have the full $14M funded (current funding allocated to the project is $6.4M.)
Jana also discussed C-470, the current project is still having issues. She believes the project will be complete around June of 2020 but with a major punch list so she’s not confident that the entire project will be opened up to traffic until those items are cleared.
CDOT is working on a 2^nd project for C-470 that will extend the pay lanes to Kipling.
Next up was Jason Nelson from region 2 of CDOT, Jason brought Laurel Jones & Scott Schnake to discuss 2 projects for 285.  The first is the removal of the light at county road 43a in Bailey. For those that don’t know this intersection it is by the Loaf & Jug gas station and is one of the few signals left on 285.
Laurel passed out the initial design plans, Dick Elsner, Park County Commissioner, asked about a few changes to the design that CDOT will look into. Currently the project is funded at approximately $600k and CDOT may begin work in late summer. The project may be delayed depending on public comments and changes to the design. The latest this project would break ground is summer of 2021.
Scott then discussed the second project the intersection of US 285 & Highway 9 in Fairplay. CDOT is still working on the final design for this project but believe it will break ground in the summer of 2021 and will be at least a 2 year project. The project is estimated to be between $12M - $14M and should be fully funded by the time CDOT breaks ground.
The discussion then moved to a smaller project in Park County, to replace the bridge just south of Fairplay. CDOT will completely close 285 south with detours in place to speed up the completion of this project. The project should begin the summer of 2020.
Finally, we set the meeting dates for 2020, they are Monday May 18^th, Monday August 17^th & Monday October 19^th. We will look for other venues as the conference room at 1^st Bank can only accommodate 10-15 people.
