Peace On Earth comes to Conifer, Colorado
By Kathy Mastroianni, Executive Director
Mountain Peace Shelter
The day was mighty chilly with temperatures around 14 degrees to start—and not rising much more. The volunteers were dreaming of hot cocoa and warm beds, but this dedicated crew bundled up and put on one of the largest and best Christmas parades ever for our community.
The 2006 Conifer Area Chamber of Commerce 24th Annual Christmas Parade with the theme “Peace on Earth” was one important way that the Chamber could continue the healing in our community after the events that occurred on September 27, 2006 at Platte Canyon High School. This was a way to honor Sheriff Fred Wegener as Grand Marshal for the hundreds of lives that were saved that day. A way to turn our energies and focus to Peace with 44 parade entries displaying the theme of “Peace on Earth” (the past two years had only 33 entries). There were 8 brave BizArt entries, too, adding to the festivities. This was also a way to kick off the holidays in a fun and positive way for children of all ages.
Parade Committee members included:
Jacque Scott, George Hurst, Jan Hurst, Sean Riley, Nicholle Leafblad (aka: The Poop Fairy), Sue Allegrezza, Carol Anderson, Shadow Mountain Kiwanis, Bob Potrykus and Kathy Mastroianni.
Special Thanks to: PJ Clark with Pacific Auctions and Randy Fowler with Fowler Electric for donating their services. Also thank you to all the volunteers who help make the day of the event very special for everyone. Wishing you peaceful holidays!
Big news: Park County Sheriff Fred Wegener will be the grand marshal! Join in this huge community "THANK YOU" to the sheriff.
The parade will be Saturday, Dec. 2. at 11am in Aspen Park.
Deadline for parade entry forms is Nov. 30.
Parade Check-in: Starting at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Wright and Sutton. Parade placements will be given out at that time.
BizArt Check-in: In the RTD lot after 9:00 a.m.
