The Conifer area is surrounded by the beauty of the mountains which all of us are able to enjoy on a daily basis. Throughout the year, we share this beauty with people from all corners of the world as they travel the 285 Corridor. Wouldn’t it be phenomenal for Conifer to burst into color each spring with wildflowers that we could share with our visitors and friends? The way to accomplish this is by sowing millions of wild flower seeds. "Color Conifer" has been initiated by the Conifer Area Chamber of Commerce and, according to Max Anderson, who launched this project, this could eventually be an area-wide challenge.
Max has developed a list of goals for the project that
include the following:
• Ask civic and volunteer groups to join the effort, both in donations and spreading seeds
• Have the schools get involved. Grade schools children could participate in a coloring contest. High school students to help spread seeds.
• Shopping centers could share in the cost of seeding their centers and merchants could get involved in seeding and putting out potted flowers.
• Obtain permission from CDOT on seeding the sides of the highway.
• Work with Jefferson County Open Space about seeding their properties.
• Get individual citizens involved in seeding their property.
• Ask a Colorado State University Extension Agent to assist in education of "how, what, and when.".
• Have everyone give packages of seeds to their friends and customers.
• Ask organizations to adopt a stretch of highway or one of our trail heads. Imagine driving into the Aspen Park valley and seeing Meyer Ranch covered in wildflowers. Imagine having the Conifer Area Music Festival in a sea of wildflowers.
To be successful we need as many groups and people working toward the common goal to "Color Conifer."
If you or your organization has an interest, please contact Max Anderson at 303-816-4554. We would love to have you as one of the founding planners or one of the first participants of Color Conifer.
